Definition

Let $T\ge 0$ be a non-negative Random Variable representing survival time with PDF $f(t)$ and CDF $F(t)$. The survival function of the random variable is defined as $S(t)=1-F(t)=P(T>t)$

The survival function is a function that gives the probability that a patient, device, or other object of interest will survive past a certain time.
